NEWS: ALARMING LEVEL OF BPA IN CANNED FOOD

Almost 70% of nearly 200 cans produced by major retailers such as Campbell Soup Company, General Mills Inc.’s Progresso, Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s contain the chemical Bisphenol A in the body or lid of the product, according to a new report by five nongovernment organizations. BPA is present in canned foods, part of the barrier between food and the metal can. Concern about the chemical has been raised in recent years after studies found it can get into the food it packages and may harm childhood development and reproduction. Of all the companies the report surveyed, only Campbell’s, McCormick and Nestlé said they plan to move out of BPA use in the next two years.

TAKEAWAY: Avoid canned foods.
