Before you rush to pop a pill, check these natural remedies.

Daily food can alleviate different kinds of aches and pains. You can use specific foods to cure specific symptoms, instead of using one pharmaceutical drug as a blanket cure for every type of pain.

Leg Cramps

Drink Tomato juice and eat a banana. Most leg cramps are caused by a deficiency of potassium, and drinking tomato juice is a great way to cure this type of pain, since it is extremely high in it.

Sore Throats

Peppermint tea is one of the best remedies for sore throats. This warm tea has anti-microbial properties that will soothe your throat and help kill the bacteria causing the irritation. For extra benefit, add a dollop of honey to it.

Urinary Tract Infections

Cranberries and Blueberries are some of the best foods for treating UTI. They are rich in tannins that have the ability to kill the bacteria in the digestive tract that are responsible for urinary tract infections.

Muscle Pain

Turmeric is a miracle food. It is antiseptic, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory. It that can repair tissue damage and muscle inflammation. Turmeric also adds flavor and color to your teas and juices, so it’s easy to incorporate it into your diet.

Arthritis

Cherries, Ginger root and Cayenne Pepper are great for chronic joint pain or arthritis. It will soothe your muscles, and it also acts as an anti-inflammatory. Just sprinkle them in your noodles or rice. Add ginger to your tea or just add sprinkles to your pasta.

Shingles

Chili peppers are the cure for shingles, which is a painful skin condition. Their main compound is Capsaicin, which can provide near instantaneous pain relief for people who suffer from shingles. You can rub some chili oil on the affected skin to numb the pain by de-sensitizing the sensory receptors in your skin.

Aching Joints

Garlic has great anti-inflammatory properties and you can rub it directly on your aching joints. You can make garlic oil at home by simmering six crushed garlic cloves in one cup of olive oil, and straining the cloves out after 10 minutes. When the oil cools down, rub it directly on the affected part of your body.

Toothaches

Heard of cloves? You can easily relieve toothaches by chewing cloves. Cloves contain a powerful painkiller called eugenol, which will soften the inflammation and pain caused by toothaches.

Heartburns

Apple cider vinegar has many health benefits, and is an effective cure for heartburn, and other minor aches. Apple cider vinegar can help your body break down fat more easily, which makes it good for clearing out your system too.

Headaches

White willow bark is the nature’s answer to aspirin, and it contains the active compound salicin that is well known for its pain relieving properties. White willow bark has been found to be just as effective as synthetic aspirin, and it can effectively treat most headaches and muscle pains.

General Aches and Pains

Magnesium deficiency is the usual cause of general aches and pains in the body. Magnesium deficiencies have become a common thing for people from all around the world. Luckily, this can be easily fixed through the consumption of magnesium-rich foods like dark leafy greens, nuts, avocados and dark chocolate.

By training, I am a American Board Certified Pediatrician. But in my younger years I grew up with natural alternatives. As a mom I have tried to incorporate both for my kids and it has worked wonders. And finally, as I am studying natural & alternative medicines, I realize the beauty and wisdom of living closer to earth. Hence in my practice I integrate both...for acute ailments I follow American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation but for simple and/or chronic conditions I prefer natural alternatives. In western training we were raised to think that "health is the absence of symptoms and problems". But eastern sensibilities has educated me that "Health is state that allows one to use the full capabilities of their body, mind and intellect. Therefore, healthy living is a balanced state of well being: physically, mentally, socially and spiritually." This implies that healing is not a "one-pill-fits-all", but a personalized experience.
