SPIRITUAL HEALTH: LIVING TRUE

One reason Hitler lost World War II was that he did not fully understand the situation.

Bearers of bad news were punished. Soon no one dared tell him the truth.

Not knowing the truth, he could not act appropriately.

Many of us are individually guilty of the same error.

We do not like to admit to ourselves our mistakes, errors, shortcomings,

or ever admit we have been in the wrong.

And because we will not see the truth, we cannot act appropriately.

It is a good practice to daily admit one painful fact about ourselves to ourselves

and take action to correct ourselves.

Look for and seek out true information concerning yourself, your problems,

other people, or situation, whether it is good or bad.

Adopt the motto – "It doesn’t matter who’s right, but what is important is ‘what’s right’."

Admit your mistakes and errors but don’t cry over them. Correct them and go forward.

In dealing with other people try to see the situation from their point of view as well as your own.

SPIRITUAL POEM: ATTENTION

Where your attention goes

Where your attention goes is where your life will follow. Where is your attention going most of the time?

Is your attention consumed with resentment, judgment, envy and spite? Where do you think those things will lead your life?

Do you put so much attention on proving you’re right that you end up with nothing left with which to accomplish? Imagine letting most of that go, and freeing your attention for more positive and valuable pursuits.

There are so many beautiful possibilities for authentic and lasting fulfillment. Those are the things that deserve the power of your attention.

You can decide in this moment, and in every moment, to let go of the fear, let go of the worry, let go of the anger and let in life’s delightful richness. Turn your attention toward those things that make life a joy to live.

You can choose where your attention goes, and where your life in turn will follow. No matter what you may have chosen in the past, right now is when you can choose the best.

SPIRITUAL THOUGHT: NEW BEGINNING

Every new path has a beginning and a first step

What is in your world externally is nothing more than a mirror of what is going on internally. So to change the external vision of what your world appears to be,

go within and change it there, then the outward vision will change to mirror the inward feelings.

Understand that every new path has a beginning and a first step. To pursue anything new, all you have to do is to take one-step at a time.

And that is the step before you. If we learn to feel and believe that we have all that we desire and want in life and accept what has been granted to us, more will come.

It is all about appreciation and gratitude. If you could learn to appreciate and have gratitude by focusing on what is good in your life, more goodness will flow to you.

If we complain that we do not have those things, then that is where our focus is and that is what we will continue to attract to us. If we think and imagine having the life we desire, and act and feel as we have it within, it is sure to appear before us.

When negative events occur in your life, if you look for the silver lining in the dark rain cloud, you will learn that good is always flowing toward you;

if you have the eyes to see it. And when you embrace the good that comes from that stormy rain cloud, you are transforming the energy of what you previously deemed as something negative into some positive. When you sing this new song, more “good” things can flow to you.

SPIRITUAL HEALTH: TRIUMPH OVER HARDSHIP

Triumph Over Hardships

by Jane Powell

“Think life is hard – and it’s hard!”

When you dwell on your problems or what you don’t have, you generate negative energy, and chances are your life won’t change for the better.

Why not focus on the possibilities?

When you make up your mind to do something, you’ll find you can. Instead of thinking about barriers in life, reach out after opportunities.

Instead of seeing a locked door, see a key. Instead of thinking about the rough mountain climb ahead, see yourself standing on the summit.

Today, resolve to let go of the struggles and embrace your potential. Your shift in attitude will shift your life from the shadows into the sunshine.

SPRITUAL HEALTH: SELF IMPROVEMENT

There was a king who was a great admirer of art. He encouraged artists from all over his country and gave them valuable gifts.

One day an artist came and said to the king, "Oh King! Give me a blank wall in your palace and let me paint a picture on it. It will be more beautiful than anything you have ever seen before. I promise you shall not be disappointed." Now, the king happened to be constructing a big hall at the rear end of the palace. So he said, "All right you may work on one of the walls in the new hall."

So the artist was given the job and he was very pleased indeed. Just then, another young man said, "Oh King! Please allow me to work on the opposite wall. I too am an artist."

The king said, "What would you like to make?"

The man said, "My Lord, I shall make exactly what that man will make on the opposite wall. Moreover, I shall do so, without looking at his work. I would even request you to have a thick curtain put up between the two walls so that either of us cannot see the other." Now, that was a tall statement. Everyone in the king’s court, including the king and the first artist were intrigued. But the king loved surprises and he decided to give the young fellow a chance.The following day a thick curtain was put into place and both the artists got to work. The first artist brought in a regular supply of paint, oil, water etc. The second one would come with a cloth and a bucket of water every day.

After a month the first artist told the king that his work was complete and he would like to show it to the king.The king sent for the second artist and asked him, "Young man, when would your work be ready? I am coming to see the first wall this evening."

The man said, "My Lord, my wall is ready too!"

The king went to see the first artist’s wall. He was very, very impressed with the painting and gave a hefty sum as a reward to the artist. He then asked for the curtain to be opened up

Lo and behold! The same painting was to be seen on the opposite wall too!

Amazing! But true! Each line, each minor detail was exactly as it was on the first wall. But this man had not been seeing what was going on, on the other side of the curtain.So how had he done it? The king wanted to know the secret.

He gave a double reward to the fellow. Then he said, "Young man, I am indeed very happy with your work. But you must tell me; how did you do it?"

The lad said simply, "It’s very easy! I just polished the wall every day!"

It was a wall made of white marble! The fellow polished it till it shone like a mirror. The reflection of the painting across the room, showed up in it!

That is what it means to polish yourself. For when we polish our hearts and souls, we see God’s reflection within.

It is said that the world is a reflection of you. Whatever you are, the world will seem to be that too. If you are sad, jealous, dejected, angry, restless … that is what the world will seem to be!

If you are happy, the world will seem to be paradise.

You decide how you want your world to look…

SPIRITUAL HEALTH: LIVE LIKE A KING

Be Not a Beggar

by Swami Vivekananda

Ask nothing; want nothing in return. Give what you have to give; it will come back to you — but do not think of that now, it will come back multiplied a thousand fold — but the attention must not be on that. Yet have the power to give: give, and there it ends.

Learn that the whole of life is giving, that nature will force you to give. So, give willingly. Sooner or later you will have to give up. You come into life to accumulate. With clenched hands, you want to take. But nature puts a hand on your throat and makes your hands open. Whether you will it or not, you have to give. The moment you say, "I will not", the blow comes; you are hurt.

None is there that will not be compelled, in the long run, to give up everything. And the more one struggles against this law, the more miserable one feels. It is because we dare not give, because we are not resigned enough to accede to this grand demand of nature, that we are miserable. The forest is gone, but we get heat in return. The sun is taking up water from the ocean, to return it in showers. You are a machine for taking and giving: you take, in order to give.

Ask, therefore, nothing in return; but the more you give, the more will come to you. The quicker you can empty the air out of this room, the quicker it will be filled up by the external air; and if you close all the doors and every aperture, that which is within will remain, but that which is outside will never come in, and that which is within will stagnate, degenerate, and become poisoned. A river is continually emptying itself into the ocean and is continually filling up again. Bar not the exit into the ocean. The moment you do that, death seizes you.

Be, therefore, not a beggar; be unattached.

–Swami Vivekananda in "Work and Its Secret"

RIPPLE EFFECT: SPIRITUAL HEALTH

The Ripple Effect

Drop A Pebble In The Water, Just A Splash, And It Is Gone;

But There’s Half A Hundred Ripples Circling On And On And On,

Spreading, Spreading From The Center, Flowing Out To The Sea,

And There Is No Way Of Telling Where The End Is Going To Be.

Drop A Pebble In The Water : In A Minute You Forget,

But There’s Little Waves A Flowing, And There’s Ripples Circling Yet,

And Those Little Waves A Flowing To A Great Big Wave Have Grown;

You’ve Disturbed A Mighty River Just By Dropping In A Stone.

Drop An Unkind Word, Or Careless Tirade : In A Minute It Is Gone;

But There’s Half A Hundred Ripples Circling On And On And On.

They Keep Spreading, Spreading, Spreading From The Center As They Go,

And There Is No Way To Stop Them, Once You’ve Started Them To Flow.

Drop An Unkind Word, Or Carelessness : In A Minute You Forget;

But There’s Little Waves A Flowing, And There’s Ripples Circling Yet,

And Perhaps In Some Sad Heart A Mighty Wave Of Tears You’ve Stirred,

And Disturbed A Life, Was Happy Ere You Dropped That Unkind Word.

Drop A Word Of Cheer And Kindness : Just A Flash And It’s Gone;

But There’s Half A Hundred Ripples Circling On And On And On,

Bearing Hope And Joy And Comfort On Each Splashing, Dashing Wave

Till You Wouldn’t Believe The Volume Of The One Kind Word You Gave.

Drop A Word Of Cheer And Kindness: In A Minute You Forget;

But There’s Gladness Still A Swelling, And There’s Joy A Circling Yet,

And You’ve Rolled A Wave Of Comfort Whose Sweet Music Can Be Heard

Over Miles And Miles Of Water Just By Dropping One Kind Word..!!

NEW YEAR POEM: LET ME BE

In case you are wondering, “Let me be…” is not a request for privacy. 🙂

It is, in fact, the title of a song performed by a band called The Statler Brothers in 1969.

In my opinion, it is also the perfect prayer for the New Year!

“Let me be a little kinder.
Let me be a little blinder
To the faults of those about me;
Let me praise a little more.

Let me be when I am weary
Just a little bit more cheery,
Let me serve a little better
Those that I am striving for.

Let me be a little braver
When my troubles bid me waver;
Let me strive a little harder
To be all that I should be.

Let me be a little meeker,
With a brother who is weaker,
Let me think more of others
And a little less of me.

Let me be a little sweeter,
Make my life a bit completer;
Keep me faithful to my duty
Every minute of the day.

Let me toil without complaining,
Not a humble task disdaining;
Let me think more of my neighbor
And a little less of me.”

Have a very happy New Year!

SPIRITUAL POEM FOR SOCIETY

WHERE THE MIND IS WITHOUT FEAR

– Tagore (Gitanjali)

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;

Where knowledge is free;

Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;

Where words come out from the depth of truth;

Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;

Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;

Where the mind is led forward by thee

Into ever-widening thought and action–

Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.

SPIRITUAL HEALTH: HAPPINESS

World Happiness Report from UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN).

The report identifies the countries with the highest levels of happiness:

1. Denmark

2. Norway

3. Switzerland

4. Netherlands

5. Sweden

US comes #12 in a survey of 150 countries.

The lowest ranked were Rwanda, Burundi, the Central African Republic, Benin and Togo, all in Africa. Happiness was up most in Latin America and sub-Saharan Africa, but down in countries struck by economic upheaval (Greece, Italy, Portugal and Spain) or political convulsions (Egypt).

Six key variables explain three-quarters of the variation in annual national average scores over time and among countries. These six factors include: real GDP per capita, healthy life expectancy, having someone to count on, perceived freedom to make life choices, freedom from corruption, and generosity. Some studies show mental health to be the single most important determinant of whether a person is happy or not. Yet, even in rich countries, less than a third of mentally ill people are in treatment.

SPIRITUAL HEALTH POEM

POEM FOR SPIRITUAL HEALTH

Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don’t know everything,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.
Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge
because it will build your strength and character.
Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you’re tired and weary,
because it means you’ve made a difference.

LIFE’S LITTLE LESSONS

Life’s Little Lessons – Mother Teresa

People are often unreasonable, illogical

And self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you
Of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some
False friends and some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank,
People may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building, someone
Could destroy overnight
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness,
They may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today,
People will often forget tomorrow;
Do well anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
And it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you got anyway.

You see, in the final analysis,
It is between you and God;
It was never between you and them anyway.

SPIRITUAL POETRY ON HOPE

In Spite of War

by Angela Morgan

In spite of war, in spite of death,

In spite of all man’s sufferings,

Something within me laughs and sings

And I must praise with all my breath.

In spite of war, in spite of hate

Lilacs are blooming at my gate,

Tulips are tripping down the path

In spite of war, in spite of wrath.

"Courage!" the morning-glory saith;

"Rejoice!" the daisy murmureth,

And just to live is so divine

When pansies lift their eyes to mine.

The clouds are romping with the sea,

And flashing waves call back to me

That naught is real but what is fair,

That everywhere and everywhere

A glory liveth through despair.

Though guns may roar and cannon boom,

Roses are born and gardens bloom;

My spirit still may light its flame

At that same torch whence poppies came.

Where morning’s altar whitely burns

Lilies may lift their silver urns

In spite of war, in spite of shame.

And in my ear a whispering breath,

"Wake from the nightmare! Look and see

That life is naught but ecstasy

In spite of war, in spite of death!"

IF YOU CAN”T BUY EVERYTHING YOUR CHILD WANTS…

SPIRITUAL POEM ON CONFIDENCE

The Man Who Thinks He Can

Walter D. Wintle

If you think you are beaten, you are;

If you think you dare not, you don’t;

If you’d like to win, but think you can’t,

It’s almost a cinch you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,

For out in the word we find

Success begins with a fellow’s will,

It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you’re outcasted, you are;

You’ve got to think high to rise.

You’ve got to be sure of yourself before

You can ever win a prize.

Life’s battles don’t always go

To the stronger or faster man;

But soon or late the man who wins

Is the man who thinks he can.
